1. Rounders (1998)

The term ‘Rounders’ refers to people who go around city-to-city to find high-stake games to play. In this movie, the main character Mike McDermott (played by Matt Damon) loses all his money in an underground high-stakes poker game to Teddy ‘KGB’, who is a Russian gangster. He then runs into an old friend (played by Ed Norton), who starts playing poker again but gets caught cheating when trying to pay off an old debt. However, Mike figures out that the debt is owed to Teddy ‘KGB’, and therefore takes one last effort to beat the Russian gangster.

This movie is amazing as it describes the different hands of poker in a clear way that even beginners will understand.

2. Casino Royale (2006)

One of the classic James Bond movies, Casino Royale is the starting movie for the Agent 007 & Daniel Craig. This British spy film revolves around a poker tournament with major stakes. In the movie, James Bond looks to prevent Le Chiffre, a mobster who finances terrorist organizations, from winning a high-stakes poker tournament. The poker scenes are beautifully shot.

3. 21 (2008)

This film is an American heist drama that stars Jim Sturgess, Kevin Spacey, Laurence Fishburne among others. The story is inspired by true events and of an MIT Blackjack Team. The main character Ben Campbell (Jim Sturgess) is a brilliant MIT student who has a heavy $300,000 fee to Harvard Medical School. To help him, the MIT professor Micky Rosa (Kevin Spacey) invites him to be a part of a Blackjack Team that counts cards. They become experts & take on Las Vegas casinos.

4. Teen Patti (2010)

Directed by Leena Yadav, this Bollywood movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ben Kingsley, R. Madhavan, Raima Sem & Shraddha Kapoor. The story is about a mathematics professor who is attempting to research and write a thesis about probability. The game majorly revolves around the Indian card game Teen Patti. In this movie, there are scenes where the maths professor and students experiment their theories with live players.

5. Molly’s Game (2017)

Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, Molly’s Game is based on the memoirs of Molly Bloom. 6. The Cincinnati Kid (1965)

This 1965 American drama film tells us a story about Eric ‘The Kid’ Stoner, who is a professional poker player. The movie revolves around Eric as he looks to increase his reputation as a poker player, which brings him to challenge Lancey “The main” Howard, who is more experienced and was considered to play the best poker player. 7. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)

This British comedy earned a lot of praise in the early 2000s for it’s amazing film features. The plot explains long-term friends and petty criminals Eddie, Tom, Soap & Bacon putting up 100,000 pounds so that Eddie can play 3-card brag against Harry “Hatchet” Lonsdale’s high-stakes game. However, the game is rigged and the friends get stuck into massive debt. So, they decide to rob another gangster in the next flat.
